Despite the hustle and bustle of the holiday season I have actually maintained my goal of running a few times a week in preparation for the half marathon for my birthday. If you aren’t signed up for my newsletter you may have missed out on some details. You can get caught up, however, by watching my #bedtohalfmarathon video series.
Last weekend I got all the way up to 8 miles in my training. Yes, 8 miles of walking, jogging, running (only for about 30 seconds at a time, but still running), huffing, puffing, sweating and whining. My poor running buddy is really a good sport. She is hanging in there with me and tolerating my whining, dragging me along for most of the way.
I’m amazed at the changes in myself already. One big one – I have fallen in love with places like Road Runner and Under Armor – trading in my MAC and shoe habits for fitness gear. I’d rather have a Fitbit than new jewelry. When I plan trips I wonder if there is a half marathon in town. Is that a good thing? I’m not even sure yet.
As we near the end of the year, I’m reflecting and being thankful for my new passion for running, new interest in getting fit, and the new relationships forming by way of Black Girls Run.
Over the past 8 weeks I’ve gone from being a bed potato, to signing up for a 10k in January, and 3 half marathons in 2016. Stay tuned to see how I’m progressing, and hopefully to get some inspiration for your goals.
What are your wellness goals for the new year? And what do you plan to do to make sure you reach them?
