As I shared a few days ago, I used to struggle with my weight. But what I didn’t tell you is the weight was the least of my troubles.
A couple of years ago I started having chest pains, mainly upon awakening in the morning. This was accompanied by nausea. This went on pretty consistently for about a month. I thought there was something wrong with my heart.
The pains became more frequent. So I finally decided to see a doctor for an EKG.
“You have a perfectly healthy heart” was the report. Well, that left me relieved by absolutely NO closer to figuring out what was really wrong with me. So I continued to consume my regular diet of antacids and ginger ale, thinking this is just part of life after 40.
Around the same time, I was experiencing increasing memory loss. My declining memory function had been a problem since I was in my twenties. But this time it was becoming embarrassingly bad, and problematic.
But even worse than the memory loss, I was beginning to have problems conversing. I had to think hard about what I wanted to say in order to put the words together. I was actually starting to feel stupid. WTF was wrong with my brain??? (Yes, really, WTF??? And I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one asking that.)
Then by coincidence, better known as the grace of God, during this time I had a work related need to make a temporary change to my diet. That one change may have saved my life. The things that were going on in my body that I had been dealing with for months (and learning to just live with) ALL WENT AWAY.
What I didn’t know at the time is that food sensitivities were actually causing me to experience brain fog and memory loss, severe heartburn and indigestion, insomnia, as well as hold onto excess weight. Had I continued to “just deal with it” this could have turned into a serious illness.
Every day I am thankful that I found a way to adjust my diet that reduced inflammation and bloating, and restored my memory. And I lost 28 pounds in the process.

P.S. I must say that the few changes I made to my diet have me feeling better than I have in a long time. I look so forward to sharing my plan with the Divas in the next group. If this sounds like something you need to do for yourself, don’t wait. Take care of your body so it can take care of you.
