Okay, I will admit it – I don’t even know what a hot girl summer is. But I do know it was hot in Greece, and we had an absolutely wonderful time.

About a year ago I opened registration for our first group trip to Greece, ladies only. After deciding to island hop via ferry rather than take a cruise, I settled on Athens, Mykonos, Santorini and Crete. The ladies began to sign up for our first Greek Summer Vacay experience, and registration closed within a couple of months when we were full to the brim at 34.

Since I had not been to Greece in eons, I thought it would be good for me to go ahead of the 33 ladies I would be hosting there, and get a bit acquainted with things. I’m glad I did. I spent 4 days hopping from one island to the next, just to see what it would be like for the ladies who were on the way. I truly enjoyed my me time in Greece, but actually the fun hadn’t even started.

The ladies arrived in the afternoon, giving us enough time to catch the red hop on hop off bus and check out some of the sights. We ended the evening with dinner in the Plaka neighborhood, a really busy historical area of Athens, near the Acropolis and walking distance from our hotel.

The next morning we headed off to catch a very comfortable ferry to Mykonos. This is where we had our welcome dinner, complete with an impromptu party we started right in the middle of a restaurant. I don’t know how much Beyonce, Too Short and Juvenile would have been appreciated as dinner music at any restaurant here in the states, but I can say that the folks in Greece were most appreciative of our singing, dancing, and my DJ’ing skills. A prophet is just not appreciated in his own home.

Day 2 in Mykonos is a blur, but I do remember lots of shopping. And there may have been a day 3. If so, that was the day we visited the secret beach. See, I met this local chef, and he invited me and my 33 friends out to a dinner he was preparing at a beach house in a secret location. About 12 of us took him up on his offer (the others chose to do a cooking class elsewhere which looked like quite a bit of fun) and found out what the secret was once we got there. It was a clothing optional beach. Interesting. That’s all I’ll say about that. And the food was amazing.

Next we moved on to Santorini. I must tell you, this island was hotter than fish grease. Very pretty, very blue, nice wine, but too damn hot. Fortunately our hotel had like 7 pools. We needed ALL of them. Our hotel was steps from some amazing shopping and restaurants too. If you didn’t know, Greece has more shopping opportunities than Paris.

After a couple of days on the island of Santorini we moved on to Crete. This is where we got a chance to explore a bit of Greek history, and enjoy lots of wonderful shopping. Oh, and very good food.

Our final stop was a return to Athens, complete with a visit to the Acropolis. And we finally got the chance to break some plates at our farewell dinner. Your trip isn’t really complete without some plate breaking.

On our last day we did what, more shopping. Sandals, olive oil, soap made from olive oil, beautiful fashions, amazing hand made jewelry, more sandals, art, you name it. Yes, yes, yes. I loved it.

So Greece is for those who can tolerate the heat, love to shop, love good food, and can appreciate the handsome men – clothing optional. There are plenty of them there, and they do appreciate the sistas. Just an FYI.

So that was our hot girl summer. I guess. Again, I don’t even know what that means. What about you? How has your summer been?
